Hacker Dreams

Hacker Dreams

I'm a deeply curious person, but also easily distracted by literally anything. So growing up it was super hard for me to choose a path. At 15, I fell in love with the movie Hackers -- the music, the outfits, the whole vibe! This also made me deeply terrified of being raided by the FBI. 😅  I've since realized that I can avoid FBI raids and still follow my curiosity.

These last few years I’ve been working in Data Engineer, and one thing that’s become clear: I have the most fun when I can build with a small team, hacking together something fast, that we then scale!

Some of the stuff I’ve loved working on:

  • Streaming event pipelines that make data flow across teams
  • Redaction systems that protect sensitive info
  • Automation tools that improve developer happiness

Those projects are creative, collaborative, and they solve real problems. They give me that “hacking together cool shit” rush.

I’ve also realized how drained I feel doing more analytics engineering, model building work. It’s not where my curiosity goes. I like systems, infrastructure, and security research.

I’ve started paying more attention to that difference—what sparks vs what drains. Listening to that voice screaming at me to follow my 15 year old dreams of hacking. Returning to that curiosity driven girl who wanted to explore, but didn't know where to start. Now it's so easy to start and learn anything!

So for the next year I've committed to getting as far through the TryHackMe learning paths as I can! I want a deep understanding of computer systems and all the vulnerabilities. I want to help prevent attacks, increase efficiency, and have fun!
